BiTS labo, the up-and-coming contra-fashion and contra-design team, is presenting its debut show entitled Disturbia, which acts around redefinition of relentless restlessness. The art-performance is imagined to translate this world of inquietude via light, sound, motion and fashion. The debut collection reflects the asymmetric and raw aesthetic based upon the ancient Japanese philosophy – Wabi Sabi – which acknowledges three basic realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect…

BiTS labo officially debuts with its first catwalk show, after a long long hard work and sleepless nights, we feel it is time to start opening up to the public.

BiTS labo #DISTURBIA show will be presented on the 3rd May 2k13, and it is final touches time!

BiTS organizes constant workshops at our isolated studio, and we are working on the set, on the visuals, on the accessories, on the music and the other decorative elements, which will highlight our version and vision of disturbance theme.

At the moment we are designing head accessories which we would like to integrate into the styling of the show. Hungarian BME university students from architecture and object design departments are assisting the production process. Huge objects are imagined but the final shapes are yet unknown.

Apparently the most collection pieces are already finished and we have one month left to style everything. This period of constant work and expectation is very trying and tiring. The milestone of BiTS Contra-Fashion debut and its other forms of Contra-Design and Contra-Lifestyle will be marked by this debut catwalk presentation. The location is yet secretive, but the official invitation and RSVP will start from the beginning of April 2k13 and all the relevant information will be indicated there.

Really crystalized taste comes with experience and knowledge!

BiTS opinion states that there is a huge difference between “Fashion” and “Clothing”.

Fashion, well at least what it originally used to mean, is something made with care and much thought by the designer/pattern-maker and individually crafted, cut, assembled and sewn together with attention to detail and aesthetic sensibility. It provokes taste in people and develops a personal inimitable lifestyle over time. Fashion is always a statement of quality and self-awareness. It requires effort, knowledge and self-respect. Clothing, on the other hand, is just mass produced basic shapes and cuts of wearable products with replicated ideas, which are sold to meet the needs of covering the human body from nakedness. In other words, Fashion has a decorative aspect to its definition, while Clothing stays at a merely functional level.

Through out the ages, people tend to care about the objects which surround them. But in today’s society the rate of disposed clothing items is frighteningly enormous, which is caused by humanity’s ignorance, unawareness and capitalism in general. And the saddest part is that the core tools of capitalism, for instance as advertisement, misleadingly utilize words such as “Fashion” or phrases such as “Democratization of Fashion” (which is a total contradiction and non-sense by the way) in order to sell more mass produced plastic Clothing. It was not until the 1930s (less than 100 years ago) when the industrialization of garment-construction took place and the prices of clothes started to drop to the affordable level by matching a decent quality standards. The cost of Clothing has been on a constant downfall trajectory ever since, while Fashion, as it has always been, remains a privilege of a chosen few and some other rare intellectual and artistic stratums of society even today.

Unfortunately modern media and society’s convenience merged the definitions of both Fashion and Clothing so intensely together, that there is no more common sense left in even bothering to separate the two terms anymore. The definition of designer shifted far away from artisan towards more fictive graphic and technological directions, while the expression such as “a dress-maker” simply disappeared from everyday language. As a matter of fact, today Fashion and fashion-designer, as words, have much of a negative and appalling meaning to them, as well as great deal of prejudice and misunderstanding. And since BiTS labo is a devoted dress and garment constructing adventure, which started in our rather regressive century, BiTS has made a decision to consider itself and its work as “Contra-Fashion” achievement and encourage the artisan clothes crafting tradition, in order to withstand and resist the modern formulations of the word Fashion as what it means to a random everyday all-devouring and all-disposing consumerism.

The milestone of BiTS Contra-Fashion debut and its other forms of Contra-Design and Contra-Lifestyle will be marked by a BiTS labo debut catwalk presentation, which is being produced and planned for this up-coming spring of 2k13.

Yes, We are bored of being well-behaving handsome guys… so catch this hot potato…

BiTS labo aims to find an ultimate colour, concept, fabric, direction, feel and touch. Although it is not as easy as it might seem, since we are all colour blind in one way or the other and each one of us perceives his / her sense of beauty or reality differently.

And since it is impossible to please each desire and taste out there, BiTS labo ambition shifts, from simply flattering everyone, towards rather provoking and prompting questions and causing misunderstandings. Pushing our viewers out their boring comfort zones.

We want to do and create something that we have never seen before, in terms of shapes and forms, or simply conceptual ideas. Creation shall be risky and without any second thoughts, otherwise it will never be accomplished. BiTS aim to explore the boundaries and if stuck in a dead end, simply bounce these tiny walls further. Let’s say it is some sort of design maximalism – draw the line, make final decision upon it, finish it until the end regardless any obstacles, respect your final result, improve it with its surrounding (nothing can exist in vacuum), stay always loyal and never jump around from one less attractive little idea towards the other.

We have seen quite a few things, we have seen this and that, we have made our research, we made up our minds long time ago and we have become design snobs or cynics if you wish. We are looking for people not even with sophisticated views, but rather for people with distinctive Elitism in personal taste and style. We are bored of half finished ideas, easy wishes and comforting lifestyles or useless unproductive online start-ups (by productivity we mean creating physical touchable product out of air, not a bubble). We crave for people who are interested in things, exploring their fulcrum, digging deeper within, not simply and superficially google-ing and wiki-ing obvious lack of invention up on the net.

At the moment we are struggling with creation of our debut fashion collection, which draft is entitled #Disturbia, our main purpose with this collection is to cause indignation to the viewer, because we are bored of being well-behaving handsome guys anymore.
